Overall Opinion:
Overall, at 3 out of 5 stars, AST Enzymes Floracor-GI Intestinal & Candida Cleanse is a slightly above average product.
This probiotic is meant for overall digestive and immune health and specifically as a Candida cleanse.
Candida is a type of yeast and supposedly you can have Candida overgrowth in certain areas of your body.
More research needs to be done on the topic to prove that it’s a true problem and not a health misinformation fueled by the media.
However, Candida infections do happen (Candidiasis) but not generally in the intestines as it’s commonly thought.
Candida infections occur in specific mucous membranes such as the mouth, esophagus, and vagina.
It can also affect the skin.
Getting back to the actual probiotic, there are some things that I really like about it (whether Candida overgrowth of the intestines is a real thing or not).
I really like that this probiotic has enzymes- Protease, Cellulase,Chitosanase & Peptizyme SP® (Serrapeptase).
Enzymes may help break down food and make sure our bodies are absorbing the nutrients properly.
I also like the addition of prebiotics in the capsules such as Fructooligosachharides (FOS) because they help the probiotics survive in the body and get to where they need to go.
This probiotic is also very allergy friendly, vegan friendly, and kosher-certified.
The capsules don’t need to be refrigerated so they end up being much more stable and convenient.
Now for what I don’t like about this probiotic…
The directions say to take 2 capsules, 2x daily, with a large glass of water on an empty stomach, either 30-60 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal.
I personally am not a fan of these types of probiotics.
It may not seem like a lot but remembering to take 4 capsules daily and also make sure you’re taking them at the right times can be annoying.
I like the simpler 1x daily probiotics.
I also got really bad stomachaches while taking this probiotic, so that’s a bummer.
It’s also only safe for adults 18+ years old.
One of my biggest problems with this probiotic is that it doesn’t share anywhere how many CFUs or cells there are of each probiotic strain.
It just says a 500 mg proprietary blend…that doesn’t do us much good.
Overall, at 3 out of 5 stars, AST Enzymes Floracor-GI Intestinal & Candida Cleanse is allergy friendly, has great additions such as prebiotics and enzymes, and is shelf stable but it’s requires 4 capsules daily, may cause side effects, and doesn’t give us the CFU count for the probiotic strains.
The Details:
Ingredients/Strain Profile
AST Enzymes Floracor-GI Intestinal & Candida Cleanse has 11 different probiotic strains in a 500 mg proprietary blend with prebiotics and enzymes.
As mentioned earlier, the company doesn’t list how many CFUs are in the capsules.
Total bummer!
Of note, I like the use of Lactobacillus acidophilus.
This particular probiotic strain has been researched quite a bit in probiotic studies.
It has been shown to have potential benefits for those suffering with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Lactobacillus acidophilus may also help with gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and vaginal infections.
Unfortunately, I’m actually not a fan of one of the probiotic strains- Lactobacillus casei.
This probiotic has been shown to be fairly aggressive in the sense that it can overrun the “good” probiotics by occupying areas that other probiotics might have taken in the body.
The point of probiotics is to balance out the good and bad bacteria in the body, not make it harder for the good bacteria to survive.
Allergy Concerns
Floracor-GI Intestinal & Candida Cleanse is very allergy friendly.
The capsules are free of: eggs, nuts, dairy, lactose, yeast, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, potato, and rice.
They are also don’t use any pesticides, preservatives, animal derivatives, artificial sweeteners and colors.
This probiotic is also kosher-certified, NON-GMO, and suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
I really love how this company goes the extra mile and seems to hit all the marks!
One important note is that this probiotic contains 0.19 mg (2% daily value) of iron.
It’s a rather low amount, but please keep this in mind if you’re taking multivitamins or supplements with iron because taking too much may be harmful to your body.
Other ingredients in the capsules include: microcrystalline cellulose and cellulose (vegetarian capsule).
Price/Value
For 180 capsules, it costs $45.99 + $7.95 Shipping & Handling ($53.94 total) and lasts a month and a half.
This works out to be $1.19 a day to take this probiotic.
This is very expensive.
However, this product contains a blend of probiotics, prebiotics, and enzymes so I think it ends up being a decent price for the value.
Side Effects
I did get side effects while taking this probiotic.
I had really bad cramping and stomach pains.
I’ve noticed that when the directions say to take the probiotics on an empty stomach, I normally see more prominent side effects.
Keep this in mind if you have overly sensitive stomachs too.
Guarantee
AST Enzymes has a satisfaction guarantee.
If you aren’t satisfied with the product, you have 1 year to return the unused portion.
They will refund your money for the unused portion (not the entire bottle).
The refund doesn’t include shipping and handling.
You also have to write a short explanation for the reason you’re not satisfied.
I wish they could guarantee the whole product…
However, since you have an entire year to return it, I think it’s still a great option!
