Does Giselle Use Probiotics To Clear Up Her Acne?

Giselle and ProbioticsThough we’re not teenagers anymore, the occasional blemish is something that most of us continue to have to deal with as adults, at least from time to time.

If you’re like me you’ve already tried everything from chemical toners and clay masks to battery-powered deep cleansing brushes and specially-formulated liquid face washes.

Well, stop right now.

Step away from those miracle tools and potions, because it’s time to try something new— probiotics may be the solution to clearer skin!

According to Rose-Marie Swift, supermodel Giselle Bündchen’s makeup artist and founder of RMS Beauty, probiotic treatment (and getting one’s digestive health in check) is the most important step you can take in the quest for a blemish-free complexion.

The American Academy of Dermatology supports this information.

Dr. Whitney P. Bowe, a board-certified dermatologist, cites the ability of probiotics both taken in capsule form and applied directly to the skin, to improve skin health.

According to Dr. Bowe, topical probiotics can create an effective barrier against harmful bacteria, and help to calm skin inflammation.

This process is known as “bacterial interference” and it is potentially effective against the “bad” bacteria found on the skin that can cause the inflammation, bumps and redness associated with acne and other skin conditions.

Therapeutic use of probiotics has been adopted by various skin care manufacturers encouraged by these findings.

Probiotics taken orally can have a similar effect, both inside and out.

Available in capsule form or found in yogurt and other fermented foods, most over-the-counter probiotics available on the market today contain strains of Lactobacilli or Bifidobacterium that have been associated with healthy gut function.

Researchers continue to work every day to determine the specific strains of bacteria that may be most effective for therapeutic use, aiming to improve gut health, skin health, and behavioral health, and even reducing inflammation and stress.

The amazing ability of ingested probiotics to improve skin health refers to the “gut-brain-skin axis,” a burgeoning area of research.

Scientists are just beginning to discover the way that these, and other interacting systems connected to probiotic use and the human microbiome, function in the body.

In addition to working towards better stress management and eating a healthy diet, probiotic use may prove to be incredibly effective against acne and other common skin ailments.

If Giselle’s gorgeous skin is any indication, her makeup artist may be on to something!
