Overall Opinion:

Emergen-C packets have always been a go-to for me when I’m sick or doing everything I can to avoid getting sick.

So I was really excited to try this new Emergen-C Probiotics+ product!

I wanted to like this probiotic more, but ended up giving it only 2 out of 5 stars.

So it definitely fell a little flat for me…

Let’s start off with what I like and then switch over to my issues with it.

First, I love the convenience of these little packets!

They’re ideal for travel and on the go because you can easily throw them in a purse or suitcase.

And most importantly, they don’t need to be refrigerated.

They’re easy to take and you only need one packet per day.

To use, just empty the contents of 1 packet into a glass of 4-6 ounces of cold or cool water and stir it up!

It says to drink within 30 minutes of mixing, but I’d suggest sooner than that because it starts to separate.

The drink tastes great, too!  I got the orange flavor and it’s a refreshing, slightly sweet, fizzy taste.

It does have a little vitamin taste to it, but it’s pretty similar to their normal Emergen-C packets (if you’ve ever tried those before).

They also have a raspberry flavor, if that’s more of your cup of tea.

This product doesn’t have any artificial sweeteners, is vegetarian, contains no dairy, and is gluten free.

So that’s all great!

But now for what I don’t like about this probiotic.

My main issue is that it only has 2 billion CFU and 2 strains.

Right away, that’s just not potent enough to really make a difference.

This is especially true if you have a specific ailment or a digestive disorder, etc.

I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and I really just didn’t see any improvement with my symptoms.

So I would suggest this as a daily probiotic if you’re just trying to give yourself a little digestive and immune boost but are otherwise healthy.

It also only has one added vitamin, which is Vitamin C.

I was expecting way more vitamins and minerals since this brand is known for that.

So I was let down with that!

It’s also not formulated for children, so it’s only safe for adults.

Make sure you store it at room temperature and protect it from moisture or the powder will start clumping together.

And just a quick overview of the nutritional facts…

For each packet there are 15 calories, 3 g carbs, 3 g total sugars (all from added sugars), 250 mg (278% DV) Vitamin C, 60 mg (3% DV) of Sodium, and 110 mg (2% DV) of Potassium.

Overall, this product gets 2/5 stars and is lacking in some main areas for me.

The Details:

Ingredients/Strain Profile

In each individual packet of Emergen-C Probiotics+, there are 2 billion CFUs in 2 probiotic strains.

This just isn’t a very potent or diverse strain profile, which is something we always look for in a quality probiotic supplement.

I do like the strains used, if only there were additional ones included to help round it out.

In this product, there’s 1 billion CFU of the strain Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG).

Some studies suggest that it helps prevent diarrhea, fight off harmful gut pathogens, and even help with some autoimmune conditions like eczema.

It may also potentially lower inflammation and provide some relief for arthritis.

A 2008 study from the University of Tennessee showed that LGG produces 2 proteins that help heal the lining of the gut by promoting “epithelial integrity” and reducing permeability and oxidative damage.

This probiotic also has 1 billion CFU of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (BB-12®).

B. Lactis has been shown to boost immunity and potentially reduce cold and flu by increasing the body’s natural defenses.

Other research suggests it helps decrease lactose intolerance, improve digestion, reduce oral bacteria, and even lower cholesterol levels.

Probiotics+ also has 250 mg of Vitamin C (as ascorbic acid).

I like this addition because the beneficial antioxidants in Vitamin C help further support your immune system.

Allergy Concerns

Emergen-C Probiotics+ doesn’t seem to have any allergy concerns.

That’s a definite plus!

This product doesn’t contain any dairy, is gluten free, and is vegetarian.

However, it’s manufactured on equipment that does process dairy.

The other ingredients include:  Fructose, Citric Acid, Maltodextrin, Malic Acid. Contains <2% of: Acacia, BetaCarotene (color), Magnesium Hydroxide, Natural Flavors, Orange Juice Concentrate (color and flavor), Orange Oil, Rebaudioside A (extracted and purified from natural stevia leaf), Silicon Dioxide, Sodium Ascorbate (to preserve freshness), Tartaric Acid, Tocopherols (to preserve freshness).

Price/Value

On the Emergen-C website, it directs you to their Amazon page to buy the product.

You have a choice of flavors (orange or raspberry) and sizes (14 or 30 count).

I got the 14 pack in the orange flavor and it costs $9.97.

Since you take 1 packet daily, it works out to a daily cost of $0.71.

That’s right around average, maybe a tad higher but I feel like you’re paying for the brand and unique fact that it’s a drink supplement as opposed to a capsule or tablet.

And as a side note, the 30 count costs $18.49 and ends up being a little better deal.

I think each size ends up being a decent value for the price.

Side Effects

I didn’t have any negative side effects while taking this probiotic.

They’re pretty natural and allergy friendly.

It doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners, which sometimes cause unpleasant side effects if you consume too much.

It does contain a sugar substitute, Rebaudioside A, which is extracted and purified from natural stevia leaf.

Stevia is thought to be more natural and safe compared to traditional artificial sweeteners.

Just make sure you don’t exceed the suggested use (1 packet daily).

Guarantee

I’m a little surprised because I can’t find any type of guarantee on the Emergen-C website.

There isn’t anything listed on their Amazon page, either.

Such a bummer!

Sometimes you can get a refund or store credit with major retailers, so definitely check that out depending on where you might buy it.
