Overall Opinion:
Overall, I think Jarrow Formulas Jarro-Dophilus EPS (Enhanced Probiotic System) is an above-average probiotic supplement.
There are a lot of things I like about this probiotic but also a few things I don’t.
Let me start with what I do like :)
First, I really like the flexibility of this product; each capsule has 5 billion cells so it can be used daily (around 1 or 2 capsules) or for a specific ailment (3 or 4 capsules daily).
The product gives you the freedom to increase or decrease the capsules based on your specific needs.
Another thing I like is that you don’t have to refrigerate these capsules (but they suggest to avoid temperatures above 77º F).
These capsules also come in super convenient blister packs (15 capsules per pack)!
This makes Jarro-Dophilus great for travel or just every day use.
The capsules have a special EnteroGuard coating that supposedly helps the live bacteria survive the journey through your stomach all the way to your small intestines, where it can go to work.
I like that this probiotic is vegetarian, gluten-free, wheat-free, nut-free and non-GMO.
However, there are a few things I don’t like…
This product contains milk and soy, two red flags in regards to those with allergy concerns.
It additionally has potato starch, which is something I’d prefer not to be in there.
Jarro-Dophilus is also not safe for children.
Overall though, I think Jarrow Formulas Jarro-Dophilus EPS is an above average probiotic because it’s flexible in terms of travel, convenient, and can be taken as a daily supplement or increased for a specific ailment.
The Details:
Ingredients/Strain Profile
Jarrow Formulas Jarro-Dophilus EPS has 8 unique probiotic strains with 5 billion live cells per capsule.
Of note, I like the strain Lactobacillus rhamnosus, which adheres to the cells within the intestine, vagina, and bladder.
This strain has been researched to show possible inhibitory effects in regards to the growth of harmful bacteria, yeast, and pathogens in the urogenital and intestinal areas.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus may also help relieve symptoms associated with traveler’s diarrhea, viral infections, and inflammation.
Another strain I like is Pediococcus acidilactici, which is actually not a naturally found intestinal bacteria but is found in vegetables.
Pediococcus acidilactici has been shown to possibly help individuals with constipation, diarrhea, and weakened immune response.
This strain may also help fight off inhibiting pathogens and harmful bacteria and is very resilient to stomach acid.
Allergy Concerns
This probiotic contains milk and trace amounts of soy.
This is a bummer for those with lactose intolerance or soy allergies.
However, Jarro-Dophilus does fairly well in other areas of allergy concern!
The capsules contain no wheat, no gluten, no egg, no fish/shellfish, no peanuts/tree nuts.
As a perk, the capsules are vegetarian and non-genetically modified.
The other ingredients include: Potato starch, magnesium stearate (vegetable source) and vitamin C.
Vegetarian capsule consists of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose and an aqueous-based enteric coating.
Price/Value
Jarro-Dophilus comes in at $27.97 for 120 capsules.
Depending on how you use the supplement, the daily price can be anywhere from $0.23 to $0.93.
If only taking the capsules once or twice a day, the price is actually well below average!
If you decide to take 3 or 4 capsules a day, the price does jump into the slightly expensive range.
Side Effects
I was pleasantly surprised while taking Jarrow Formulas Jarro-Dophilus EPS because I experienced no side effects.
I’m always thankful when I don’t see any adverse side effects while testing out these probiotics!
I started out taking 2 capsules a day and gradually increased to 4 capsules, so if you take a steady approach you may see the same results as I did.
Guarantee
Unfortunately, I didn’t see a satisfaction or money back guarantee on the Jarrow Formulas website.
