Overall Opinion:
Overall, I gave Udo’s Choice Super 8 Probiotic 3 out of 5 stars, so it’s a little better than your average probiotic.
This probiotic has a pretty solid profile of strains.
I like that Lactobacillus acidophilus makes up 45% of the strain profile because it’s a highly researched probiotic and one of my personal favorites.
They also selected live probiotic strains that have some of the highest survivability and colonization rates.
This means they’re better suited to survive stomach acid and reach your intestines at full potency.
This probiotic is intended to help maintain healthy feminine flora and prevent travelers from unfriendly bacteria and yeast.
It’s free of gluten, corn, and is non-GMO.
The directions say to take 1 capsule per day on a full stomach and up to 3 capsules daily for an extra strength dose.
If you just take 1 capsule daily, it’s actually very affordable.
However, taking 3 capsules makes it much more costly.
Also, just one capsule has 42 billion cells.
That’s definitely overboard, even for a specific ailment.
If you take the extra strength dose, you’d be getting 126 billion cells, which is just way too much.
Too many cells can lead to side effects.
I surprisingly didn’t see any negative side effects when taking it but I don’t think that’s the norm.
Definitely be cautious with this one and ease into it if you have a sensitive stomach.
This isn’t intended for a daily probiotic because of its high potency.
The bottle also recommends that you refrigerate or freeze the probiotics whenever possible to keep them at their maximum potency.
It has trace amounts of milk and soy.
Overall, I think this probiotic is a bit better than average and that’s why I gave it 3 out of 5 stars.
The Details:
Ingredients/Strain Profile
In each capsule of Udo’s Choice Super 8 Probiotic, there are 42 billion cells in 8 probiotic strains.
In particular, I like that Lactobacillus acidophilus is in the probiotic lineup.
It’s actually the most used in the formula, coming in at 45% of the strain profile.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a friendly bacterium that’s naturally found in the body, mainly in the intestines and vagina.
Studies suggest it may help prevent diarrhea, skin problems, lactose intolerance, vaginal infections, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms.
It may also help with balancing yeast levels, constipation, high cholesterol, allergies, and inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis.
Another strain I like is Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
This strain has been shown to help with gastrointestinal issues, anxiety, weight loss, seasonal allergies, and urinary tract infections.
One strain I don’t really like is Lactobacillus casei.
This strain can be aggressive and even overrun the good bacteria in the body.
Allergy Concerns
Udo’s Choice Super 8 Probiotic has a few allergy concerns.
The formula contains traces of milk and soy.
Individuals vary in their allergies and some can have trace amounts and be fine, while others experience side effects.
Just be careful if you’re allergic or sensitive to either of those.
It’s gluten-free, corn-free, and non-GMO.
The other ingredients include: Potato starch, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, ascorbic acid, stearic acid, and silicon dioxide.
Price/Value
For 60 capsules, which last between 20 – 60 days, it costs $26.99.
Depending if you take 1 to 3 capsules per day, it winds ups with a daily cost ranging from $0.44 – $1.34.
If you stick to 1 capsule per day, it’s actually very affordable.
However, if you take the extra strength suggestions of 2 – 3 per day, it ends up being incredibly expensive.
Anything other a dollar per day is usually considered higher than average.
If you just take 1 supplement, I think it ends up being a good value for the price, however not so much if you take multiple per day.
Side Effects
I didn’t have any side effects while taking Udo’s Choice Super 8 Probiotic.
I was pleasantly surprised about this.
I definitely expected to see side effects because this probiotic is very potent (42 billion cells).
Not to mention if you take the extra strength suggestion, which is 3 capsules (126 billion cells).
I would be cautious with this probiotic, especially if you have a sensitive stomach to begin with.
Some potential side effects you may experience are belly pain, gas, and bloating.
Guarantee
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any sort of money back or satisfaction guarantee on the Udo’s Choice website.
This is a disappointment.
You may be able to return the product if you buy it from certain retailers such as Amazon.
