Overall Opinion:

I was honestly expecting a MUCH better experience than what I had with MAV Nutrition Prebiotic + Probiotic.

I really didn’t think I was going to dislike this probiotic so much because it seemed to have a decent amount of potential from the get go.

However, after everything was said and done, I had to rate MAV Nutrition Prebiotic + Probiotic with a disappointing 1/5 stars.

This is the perfect example of too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

And it’s good to remember that more isn’t always better, especially when it comes to our supplements.

This probiotic just goes overboard and has a potent 20 billion CFU and also uses a fairly high amount of the prebiotic inulin.

This combo gave me the worst side effects that never seemed to go away.

I had a cocktail of stomach symptoms like intense pain, bloating, and gas.

Not to mention it did nothing except worsen and aggravate my already painful IBS symptoms.

I found that other customers experienced similar side effects and had horrible bloating, severe diarrhea, constipation, painful gas, and some even had dramatic skin breakouts.

The bottle says to consult your doctor before using this supplement if you’re pregnant, nursing, have a serious medical condition, or use prescription medication.

MAV Nutrition doesn’t offer any type of guarantee for this product, which is another negative factor for me.

It also doesn’t list allergy concerns anywhere on the bottle or website and that’s a big deal for me and I know for countless others.

Something else I found discouraging was that my bottle had a sticker on the lid saying, “Get Your Next Bottle Free” by texting a code to their number.  I followed the directions perfectly and I got a text reply saying, “This account is not active!”

Well, what the heck.  Don’t offer me something that’s not really available.

More points lost in my book.

Overall, I really just had such a bad experience with this probiotic and I hope to save you some time, money, and potential pain by telling you to PASS on this product.

The Details:

Ingredients/Strain Profile

MAV Nutrition Prebiotic + Probiotic has 20 billion live cells and a proprietary probiotic blend of 7 probiotic strains.

It also has 250 mg of inulin, which is a prebiotic.

I don’t like that it uses a proprietary blend and doesn’t show the amount of CFU each specific strain has.

Even though we don’t know how much of this strain is used, I do like that Lactobacillus rhamnosus is used in the strain profile.

Lactobacillus rhamnosus has been shown to help boost immune function, reduce harmful inflammation, and decrease some allergies.

It’s also been noted to aid in lessening the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and some skin conditions.

I’m not a fan of the particular strain Lactobacillus casei.

This probiotic strain is believed to be relatively overpowering and has the ability to overrun other good bacteria in the body.

This probiotic touts the fact it has prebiotics in the formula.

Normally I love the addition of prebiotics to my probiotic supplements but sometimes you can add too much and it can cause real problems.

Prebiotics work by acting as a fertilizer to the 2 top groups of friendly gut bacteria, which are Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria.

Unfortunately, the specific prebiotic inulin, which is a natural dietary fiber found in plants, can also feed the bad bacteria in the body.

Inulin is fermented by the bacteria, which creates a gas byproduct.

This gas then leads to painful side effects like belly bloating, flatulence, and severe abdominal discomfort.

It becomes a sort of catch-22 because we’re potentially creating the issues that we’re trying to prevent or already have.

So this becomes an even bigger problem for those who are already struggling with painful gut issues in the first place.

Allergy Concerns

I looked all over the bottle and website and can’t find any allergy concerns listed.

All that I can find is that it’s manufactured and packaged in a facility that may also process milk, soy, wheat, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and crustacean shellfish.

Allergy concerns are more important than ever and I don’t like when companies don’t have anything listed about it.

If you have any allergies, I’d definitely recommend a different product that’s guaranteed to be allergy friendly.

The other ingredients in this formula include:  Vegetable capsule (from cellulose), magnesium stearate, and silica.

Price/Value

A bottle costs $23.00 on the MAV Nutrition website.

You have to tack on another $4.94 for taxes and the cheapest shipping option, so it totals out to $27.94.

The bottle comes with 60 capsules, so it’s a 2-month supply.

It works out to .46 cents per day to take these.

That pretty inexpensive for a probiotic supplement but unfortunately you get what you pay for.

The quality of this product is so low and the price isn’t justified at all.

Side Effects

Oof!  I had the worst side effects with this probiotic.

It’s fairly common to get some side effects when first starting out with a new probiotic, especially if it’s rather potent.

So I figured my side effects would subside within a week after taking them daily.

However, this wasn’t the case. :(

I continued to have stomachaches, bloating, and gas while taking it and it never really seemed to subside.

I have a feeling it’s the high CFU count and large amount of prebiotics, which can cause issues with some people who are already experiencing gut problems.

It also didn’t do anything to help my IBS symptoms and just made everything worse for me.

I poked around online and saw that a lot of other people shared my experience.

I saw that people experienced excessive diarrhea, painful constipation, and horrible bloating pain.

Some even had severe skin breakouts and even major pH imbalances that caused overgrowth of bad bacteria.

And others simply saw zero difference or benefits from it, as if the supplement contained no real probiotic bacteria at all.

Guarantee

I looked all around the MAV Nutrition website and couldn’t find a guarantee.

I’m so disappointed by this.

I feel like it’s so important to have a satisfaction or money back guarantee for your customers.

Or at the very least have some sort of return or refund policy in place.
