Overall Opinion:
After testing out Ora Organic Trust Your Gut Vegan Probiotic & Prebiotic, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
This seems to be a newer probiotic on the block.
I actually saw it on an end cap at CVS after buying it and I’ve never see it there before.
It has quite a few things that I really like about it.
First off, it’s super allergy friendly. That’s a big point for me because I struggle with a lot of food allergies.
This probiotic is dairy-free and gluten-free and there’s no soy, tree nuts, GMOs, or added sugars.
I’m also really impressed with how natural it is.
It’s 100% vegan and it’s free of filler ingredients and no artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, or preservatives.
The capsules are freeze-dried so they don’t have to be refrigerated. So they’re perfect for traveling!
I definitely felt better while taking these supplements. I could tell my Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms were lessened and I didn’t have as much belly bloat and constipation.
It has 16 billion CFU and 6 strains in the vegan certified capsules that are specifically selected because they’re acid-resistant and can withstand stomach acid.
The formula includes an organic prebiotic that acts as fuel for the friendly bacteria.
There are a few things I don’t like though.
For instance, you have to take 2 capsules daily (which are a bit large), however they never got stuck in my throat so that’s good!
Also, for some reason they don’t specify how many CFU there are of each strain.
That’s a bummer and I wish they had it listed out for each probiotic strain.
The friendly bacteria are only guaranteed at the time of manufacture.
And this probiotic happens is pretty expensive, but luckily they have a 60-day, 100% money back guarantee.
So overall, I definitely feel this probiotic is better than your average supplement.
The Details:
Ingredients/Strain Profile
Each serving of Ora Organic Trust Your Gut Vegan Probiotic & Prebiotic (2 capsules) has 16 billion CFU and 6 probiotic strains.
It has a lot of the probiotics I like to see. The only thing is I don’t like that it doesn’t tell you how many CFU there are per strain. It just says Ora Probiotic Blend (80 mg – containing 16 billion CFU) and lists the 6 strains within the blend but not the CFU for each particular one.
But of note, I like that it has Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1.
This is one of the most commonly used strains and is known for having a high tolerance to acidity. This is important because the strains need to withstand harsh stomach acid so they can get into the bowel to colonize properly.
Lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1 is generally very well tolerated in virtually all age groups. Research shows that it supports digestive functions and promotes immune and digestive health.
It’s thought to produce an important antibacterial compound that helps fight off pathogens like E. coli, S. aureus, and Salmonella spp.
This particular strain may also help treat yeast infections and fight off candida.
Another strain I like is Bifidobacterium bifidum.
Studies suggest that this strain is helpful with boosting your immune system, alleviating Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms, constipation, ulcerative colitis, and certain kinds of diarrhea.
Trust Your Gut also has Organic Jerusalem Artichoke Inulin.
Jerusalem Artichoke is actually a sunflower root that’s high in fiber and a natural prebiotic.
Prebiotics are a great addition to probiotics because they help stimulate and feed the healthy bacteria in the gut.
Allergy Concerns
Ora Organic Trust Your Gut Vegan Probiotic & Prebiotic is really allergy friendly.
It’s vegan, which is a huge plus!
And it also uses an organic prebiotic.
This probiotic contains NO: dairy, gluten, soy, GMOs, tree nuts, added sugars, filler ingredients, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives.
I’m really impressed because this supplement seems super natural, too.
It only has one other ingredient besides the active ingredients, which is a vegan capsule (pullulan).
Price/Value
This probiotic is definitely on the pricier side of things compared to your average probiotic.
As a general rule of thumb, anything north of $1.00 per day is expensive.
A bottle of Trust Your Gut Vegan Probiotic & Prebiotic costs $34.99 and has 60 capsules.
The directions say to take 2 capsules daily, so you wind up paying $1.16 per day to take these.
So this is on the higher end cost wise.
However, I do think the price is worth it in this case.
The quality is higher than average.
And they have a few ways for you to save a few bucks.
If you sign up for their email list online, you can save 10% off your first order.
They also have subscribe and save where they deliver the probiotic automatically every month and it’s only $27.99.
So you wind up getting 20% off with that method.
I’m not always a fan of subscribe & save but sometimes it’s worth it if you find a product you like and that works for you.
Side Effects
I personally didn’t feel any negative side effects while taking Ora Organic.
It seemed to gel with me and it helped alleviate some of my digestive problems from IBS like constipation, belly bloat, and stomachaches.
However, while researching this product, I found a number of people that had really bad side effects with this particular probiotic.
For some, it caused excessive gas, bloating, and constipation!
Yikes!
This may be due to “die off” or the fact that it has 16 billion CFU, which is a higher amount for a daily probiotic.
So be cautious with this supplement if you’re new to probiotics or if you don’t have a specific ailment.
Perhaps start off with 1 capsule and work your way up to 2 once you’ve tested the waters.
Guarantee
I’m very pleased because Ora Organic offers their customers a 60-day, 100% satisfaction guarantee.
If you’re dissatisfied with your product at all, send them an email at [email protected] within 60 days of your purchase and they will refund you in full.
Having a guarantee is a must for me, especially when the product is on the expensive side of things.
