Overall Opinion:

Overall, I didn’t have a good experience with Ancient Nutrition Ancient Probiotics Ultimate Once Daily.

I ended up rating it 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Originally, I was really excited to try this supplement out and had high hopes for it.

It’s Keto & Paleo Friendly, which is great, and it includes an awesome herbal blend for digestion and immune support.

But from there it just went downhill.

The supplement goes overboard and has 50 billion CFU and 17 probiotic strains.

With the added herbal blend, the capsules are really big and hard to swallow sometimes.

You have to take 1 capsule daily with or without food, and it doesn’t require refrigeration.

This probiotic is full of SBOs (Soil Based Organisms) and that’s a red flag for me.

SBOs can cause issues for a lot of people because they aren’t native to our guts.

And the main ingredient is actually a form of yeast, which can cause more people trouble.

I personally have a yeast allergy and had numerous side effects while taking this.

I wouldn’t recommend this product if you have leaky gut syndrome, are pregnant or nursing, have a weakened immune system, or have yeast allergies.

This product just isn’t compatible with a ton of people and I think there are much better suited options out there.

The Details:

Ingredients/Strain Profile

This is a potent probiotic that contains 50 billion CFU and 17 probiotic strains.

That to begin with is more than I like to see with probiotics.

And the bigger issue is the heavy use of SBOs or Soil Based Organisms.

SBOs are not native to your gut and instead come from soil.  Think back to when we used to forage for food and would eat food straight from the ground that contained soil.  However, as we’ve evolved, this isn’t a common practice and so these SBOs are more foreign to our bodies and digestive systems.

These are very hardy strains that can survive your stomach acid but also tend to be overly aggressive in our system.

There are mixed findings for the benefits of SBOs and some cases are good, and others are bad.

I like to err on the side of caution and avoid SBOs because they do cause issues for many people and cause negative side effects.

For instance, the most abundant ingredient in this formula is Saccharomyces boulardii.

This strain should be avoided if you are immunocompromised, have Leaky Gut Syndrome, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have yeast allergies, or are a child.

The formula also includes two strains that I’m not a fan of, which are L. casei and B. coagulans.

Both of these strains are hardy and aggressive and can overrun other good bacteria and also cause side effects.

I do like the herbal blend that’s included in this probiotic.

It contains ginger root, triphala, and fenugreek seed.

These herbs are fantastic for proper digestion, lowering inflammation, and boosting immune function.

Allergy Concerns

The biggest area of concern is Saccharomyces boulardii in the formula, which is actually a form of yeast.

People with yeast allergy can be allergic to products containing Saccharomyces boulardii and are best advised to avoid these products.

This product should also be avoided if you have a weakened immune system, leaky gut syndrome, are pregnant or nursing, and it’s not safe for children.

If you’re sensitive or allergic to ginger, triphala, or fenugreek, then steer clear of this product, as well.

It’s gluten free, soy free, Keto and Paleo friendly.

There are no filler ingredients, artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives.

The other ingredients include:  Hypromellose.

Price/Value

I bought this on Amazon for $27.96.

The bottle contains a 30-day supply, so it works out to 93 cents per day to take.

That’s a bit more expensive than your average probiotic supplement.

For me, it’s not a good value and in general I think there are better options out there for a solid probiotic.

Side Effects

I definitely had some bad side effects with this product.

I had stomach pain, gas, and bloating.

Those are pretty common when you have a potent probiotic like this.

However, it also includes SBOs, which I usually have side effects with, and other people do, too.

To make matters even worse, the most abundant probiotic strain used is Saccharomyces boulardii.

This particular strain isn’t bacteria, it’s actually a form of yeast.

Unfortunately, I have an allergy to yeast.

So there are a handful of issues in this probiotic that didn’t gel with me.

My seasonal allergies seemed to worsen and I think it’s led to a possible yeast infection.  UGH!

I know not everyone is in my particular shoes with IBS and food allergies but with the high CFU count, strain amount, and SBOs, this potent probiotic may cause issues for other people, too.
