Overall Opinion:

I was so excited to get my hands on Lifted Naturals Mood Boosting Probiotic.

It touts an anxiety + depression formula with prebiotic GOS and probiotics for gut health, immunity, anxiety relief, and mood support.

I love that probiotic supplements are starting to gear towards mental health, in addition to digestive and immune health.

Recent studies have shown that adding beneficial bacteria to the gut can reduce anxiety and stress in the body. Other research is bringing to light the connection between gut health and many immune issues like allergies, eczema, asthma, and more.

I struggle with painful IBS symptoms along with stress, anxiety, and depression and I’m always interested in natural solutions to these issues.

Unfortunately, this probiotic wasn’t a solution for me in the least and it didn’t help AT ALL with my digestive issues, anxiety, or mood.  I’m highly bummed out about this because I was very hopeful at the beginning.

This probiotic is supposed to have a whopping 30 billion CFU per capsule and suggests 1-2 caps daily.

I hate these capsules because they’re so big and would get stuck in my throat sometimes.

It says not to exceed the recommended dose and pregnant, nursing mothers, children under the age of 18, and individuals with a known medical condition or taking prescription medication should talk to a doctor before taking this or any dietary supplement.

The capsules are shelf-stable and don’t require refrigeration, but they are NOT enteric coated.

They say this helps limit the number of unnecessary ingredients, which it is very allergy-friendly, but there’s an issue with it surviving stomach acid.

So they say to take with a meal to help the bacteria survive.  I did as directed but still feel like none of my probiotics were actually viable and that’s why I had zero changes with anything.

I was really expecting more with this Mood Boosting Probiotic, but it left me completely underwhelmed.

Overall, I give it 1.5 out of 5 stars and don’t recommend it.

The Details:

Ingredients/Strain Profile

Each capsule of Lifted Naturals Mood Boosting Probiotic has a high potency of 30 billion CFU, 9 probiotic strains, and the prebiotic GOS.

They say they use targeted “feel good” strains including Bifidobacterium Infantis and Bifidobacterium Longum in their custom formula with the top-performing bacterial strains to help with mood support and anxiety relief.

They note in addition to B. Infantis and B. Longum, they included seven more nourishing strains to ensure healthy digestion, immunity, and mental health.

There’s a growing body of evidence linking probiotic bacteria to improved mental health and the significance of the gut-brain connection.

Researchers have discovered that a lesser-known nervous system in our guts (our “second brain”) communicates with the brain in our head. Together, “our two brains” play a key role in certain diseases in our bodies and overall health.

One study showed that B. longum decreased stress, depression, and anxiety behaviors and was considered effective on treating anxiety.

A study done with B. Infantis showed it was effective on depression-like behaviors and significantly increased tryptophan, the serotonin precursor, in the plasma and had an anti-inflammatory effect in the body.

Another study with B. Infantis showed it helps support the immune response to pathogens such as Salmonella and that the microbiome contributes to the development of the immune system.

I like the addition of the prebiotic galactooligosaccharide (GOS) because a 6-week study with IBS patients showed that 3.5 grams of GOS per day improved IBS symptoms and reduced gas and bloating. The patients that took 7 grams of GOS daily also had improvement with their IBS symptoms but also significantly improved their anxiety symptoms.

Prebiotics feed the good bacteria in your gut for a healthy microbiome.

Allergy Concerns

The capsules are actually really allergy-friendly.

They contain NO gluten, dairy, soy, corn, or GMOs.

Lifted Naturals says their probiotics are NOT enteric coated.

They state that enteric coating adds extra ingredients that are not necessarily required, and the heating process of enteric coating can potentially damage the good bacteria.

It continues that if you want their probiotic to survive stomach acidity and work at its best, take it with food.

The only ‘other ingredients’ include vegetable cellulose (capsule).

Price/Value

A 60 capsule bottle of Lifted Naturals Mood Boosting Probiotic is $25.88 on their website.

You have to pay another $5 for standard shipping (or $7.90 for Expedited Shipping or $12.80 for Priority Shipping).

The suggested use is 1 capsule 1-2 times daily, so the daily cost ranges from $0.51 to $1.03.

51 cents is a good value and cheaper than your average probiotic, but anything over a buck is when it starts to get pricey.

They offer subscribe and save for 5% off your order.

You can also save 15% on your first order if you want to plug in your email address and sign up for their email list.

Side Effects

I didn’t have any negative side effects from taking this probiotic.

However, I didn’t have any positive effects or results, either.  :(

I was so bummed out by this.  I felt zero changes.

It was like I was taking sugar placebo pills or something.

I started out taking 1 capsule daily and then gradually upped it to two, which they suggest either 1 or 2 capsules per day.

That’s 60 billion CFU at the higher dosage and something that potent would normally give me some sort of effect, either bad or good.

But I felt nothing, not with my mood (anxiety, stress, depression) or digestive issues.
