Overall Opinion:
I give doTERRA DigestZen PB Assist+ 1.5 out of 5 stars.
The product isn’t super horrible but I just wasn’t very impressed with it.
Most importantly the whole company gives me a weird vibe.
This probiotic is VERY expensive and they have a whole membership program to get a cheaper price.
However, you have to buy into the program.
The baseline membership fee is $35 and I can’t tell if that’s a one-time payment or recurring (monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc).
They also have “bundles” that waive the fee and they range anywhere from $150 to a staggering $2750.
I felt like the company might be a pyramid scheme, which I’m not a fan of.
I don’t want to jump through hoops to buy my supplement.
I just want to buy my probiotic either online or in store and have it be an affordable, easy, straightforward process.
So talking about the actual probiotic supplement.
I do like that it’s in a time release, double-layered vegetable capsule, which is supposed to help it survive your stomach acid better.
The capsules felt like they got stuck in my throat quite a bit. I’m not a fan of that!
You also have to take 1-3 capsules daily with a meal.
The directions say to take 3 capsules daily with food for 10 days each month. And then you can take it more frequently or take 1 daily for ongoing maintenance.
The website says, “Although the PB Assist+ double-layer encapsulation technology makes it unnecessary to refrigerate, it is suggested that unopened bottles of PB Assist+ be stored in a cool, dry place and opened bottles be refrigerated when possible.”
It seems odd that you don’t have to refrigerate it but then it says to refrigerate opened bottles whenever possible.
That’s a little confusing to me.
It also warns that you may experience side effects in the first few days or weeks of taking this probiotic.
I didn’t have any negative side effects but I also didn’t really have any positive effects either.
Also, for as expensive as it is, the company offers no guarantee.
They even have a less than average return policy, such a bummer!
Overall, I’m just not impressed with this probiotic and do not love the company as a whole.
The Details:
Ingredients/Strain Profile
doTERRA DigestZen PB Assist+ has 6 billion CFU in 6 different probiotic strains.
Of note, I like B. Lactis.
This strain has been shown to help with constipation and research showed it helped increase bowel movements by 2-4x per week.
It’s also thought to help get rid of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection twice as well as compared to taking standard H. pylori therapy alone. It may also help reduce side effects caused by H. pylori therapy.
Research shows that taking bifidobacteria such as B. Lactis for 4-8 weeks can help reduce Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms like bloating, belly pain, and constipation. It may also help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety in people with IBS.
It’s also suggested to help prevent traveler’s diarrhea when used with other friendly bacteria like lactobacillus.
I also like the strain, L. salivarius.
L. salivarius is antimicrobial and may aid in fighting off infection.
It may also soothe GI inflammation, promote dental health, reduce bad cholesterol while increasing good cholesterol, and help with diabetes.
One strain I’m actually not a fan of is Lactobacillus casei.
L. Casei is known to be aggressive and can overrun other “good” probiotics, taking over areas that other probiotics might have occupied in the body.
This probiotic supplement does include 50 mg of FOS (short chain) prebiotic.
Prebiotics are beneficial in probiotics because they help encourage the growth of friendly bacteria.
Allergy Concerns
DigestZen PB Assist+ doesn’t seem to have any allergy concerns.
It doesn’t have anything specific listed on the bottle.
However, it does say that it does not contain wheat or milk products.
The other ingredients used are: vegetable glycerin, vegetable hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silica, and sodium copper chlorophyllin.
Price/Value
It costs $46.00 for a bottle of 30 vegetable capsules.
The directions say to take 1 double-layer capsule 1-3x daily.
So, if you take 1 capsule per day it works out to a daily cost of $1.53.
That’s really expensive and definitely above average.
BUT if you take 3 capsules daily it ends up being a whopping $4.60 per day!!
That’s insane!
It’s definitely the most expensive probiotic I’ve tested when you’re taking that dosage.
Either way you take it, I really don’t think it’s a good value for the price.
You’re much better off saving your money and opting for a higher quality supplement.
Side Effects
I didn’t experience any negative side effects while taking doTERRA DigestZen PB Assist+.
The product does warn that you may have discomfort in the first few days as your body adjusts to the probiotics.
I always suggest starting off with 1 capsule and gradually working your way up to avoid any belly cramping, pain, or negative side effects.
Although I didn’t see any bad side effects, I didn’t really see any good effects either.
I felt the slightest bit of improvement but nothing to get excited about. L
Guarantee
doTERRA doesn’t have a money back or satisfaction guarantee in place…which is such a bummer!
Especially since this product is very expensive.
On their website they have a “Returns & Exchanges” link but it just sends you to their email address: [email protected].
I emailed the company and they sent me to a different link that listed the return policy.
If you open the product, you can only return within 30 days of purchase and you can get a 90% refund or 100% credit. After 30 days, it’s 100% non-refundable.
No guarantee PLUS a less than average return policy… I’m not a fan!
