Overall Opinion:

When a probiotic has a higher price tag like this one, I immediately expect a higher quality product.

And Nutrilite Digestive Probiotic fell quite a bit short of my high expectations and even some of my baseline qualities I like to see in a product.

I’ll start off by saying I do like the idea of individual stick packs and having more options and flexibility for taking my supplements.

The directions say to take 1 pack daily and to mix it in a cold beverage like juice or water or you can sprinkle it on cold food such as cereal or yogurt.  It says to avoid mixing with any hot food or beverages.

Stick packs are great for travel or if you’re not fond of swallowing pills.

They also don’t need to be refrigerated, which is really convenient!

However, they aren’t always the easiest to mix.  I was really struggling to get the powder to mix well without having super big chunks.

I found the trick was to make sure you have enough liquid.  I started using a small glass of water and it would mix up much easier.  When only mixed with water, it definitely doesn’t have the best taste.  It’s lightly sweetened with a natural grape flavor and it has a bit of a medicine taste to it.  But if you mix it with juice or in a smoothie, the powder is undetected.

As a note, it says children under 12 years of age, pregnant women or nursing mothers, or anyone with a medical condition should consult with a physician before using this product.

The probiotic has a solid probiotic blend of 7 different strains that are well researched and help support your intestinal health, restore a healthy balance of bacteria, and maintain normal gut flora, plus aid in your immune function.

But the downside is that it only has 1 billion CFU, which isn’t quite powerful enough to deliver the healthy benefits we want to see.

This probiotic also contains allergens of milk & soy.  This may have been why I had some side effects the first week or so of taking this probiotic.  I had some minor stomach pain and bloating but I’m also sensitive to those allergens.  The side effects seemed to go away but then occasionally come back throughout the month.  It wasn’t crazy but just something to be noted, especially if these ingredients cause issues for you.

Overall, I just wasn’t impressed with this product and I was expecting it to deliver more.

I like some aspects of it and I think it did help alleviate some of my IBS symptoms but then I’d have small waves of discomfort.

The company also doesn’t seem to have a guarantee, which is such a bummer.

I ended up giving this probiotic 2 / 5 stars.

The Details:

Ingredients/Strain Profile

Each stick pack of Nutrilite Digestive Probiotic has 1 billion colony forming units (CFU) in a proprietary blend of lactic acid bacteria including 7 probiotic strains, and FOS prebiotic fiber.

The inclusion of 7 probiotic strains is right where I like to see it and is a beneficial amount.

However, it only has 1 billion CFU, which isn’t ideal.  I like to see my supplements with around 6-7 billion CFU for them to be effective yet still gentle.

One strain I like that they use is Bifidobacterium Bifidum.

This strain is known to be beneficial in a number of areas like treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), restoring intestinal bacteria after chemotherapy, alleviating constipation and certain kinds of diarrhea, and relieving ulcerative colitis.

They include one strain that I don’t normally see which is Lactococcus lactis.

This strain is used extensively in the production of buttermilk and cheese.

It has been found to have benefits for the human body like helping lower blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, and triglyceride contents in individuals with hypertension.

It may also play a role in alleviating allergies, treating some antibiotic-resistant bacteria, keeping harmful bacteria like fungi and mold at bay in the gut, and reducing intestinal inflammation and helping treat Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

I like the addition of the prebiotic fiber because that acts as a fertilizer for the friendly bacteria in the gut.

Allergy Concerns

Nutrilite Digestive Probiotic has some allergy concerns.

The probiotic contains MILK and SOY.

These are two very common allergens and I unfortunately am sensitive to these.

But it may not bother others without these particular allergies or sensitivities.

I do like that it doesn’t contain any artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.

The other ingredients include:  Maltodextrin, Grape Juice Powder, Carrot Pulp Powder, Starch, Vegetable Cream Powder, Gum Arabic, Natural Grape Flavor.

Price/Value

This probiotic is VERY expensive compared to the average probiotic.

It’s $45.00 for the product itself and then you add on shipping and taxes.

The total for everything was $55.96.

That works out to a daily cost of $1.86.  Which as a reference point, anything over $1.00 is considered a higher price point.

And it doesn’t have a guarantee, so it adds to the overall cost and risk in my opinion.

For me, this wasn’t worth the money at all, especially since it wasn’t the most allergy friendly and didn’t mix well.

Side Effects

I noticed some side effects when first taking this probiotic.

It isn’t very potent coming in at 1 billion CFU, but it does contain milk and soy, which I’m sensitive to.

I noticed some belly bloating, pain, and gas.

It seemed to go away after a week or so, but I feel like it would occasionally come back throughout the month.

Guarantee

This probiotic is sold by Amway and on their website (amway.com) they have a section for returns but they don’t give any additional information.

They state the process for a return but don’t say if it’s a guarantee or if you’ll get your money back or credit, etc.

It does say that if you buy the product through a separate company, that refunds, returns, etc. will take place through that individual company.

But as far as I can see, I don’t see an actual guarantee from them.
