Overall Opinion:
After trying out Pure Encapsulations Probiotic G.I. and doing some research, I ended up rating it 1.5 out of 5 stars.
I initially wanted to like it more but I kept running into issues with it and ultimately it didn’t do what I wanted it to.
I’ll give you a quick overview and then go into more detail.
First off, you can’t directly buy Pure Encapsulations unless you’re a registered healthcare practitioner and open an account with them online.
For those of us who aren’t in the healthcare space, you can buy it online on Amazon, which is the link I provided throughout this review.

The supplements are really expensive if you take the maximum daily dose (which I did) and they don’t offer you a guarantee so that’s a major buzz kill.
It’s recommended to take 1-2 capsules daily, with or between meals.
These vegan capsules are about average size and aren’t hard to swallow.
They’re shelf stable, so you don’t have to refrigerate them but it does suggest refrigeration will help prolong the vitality of the bacteria.
It also says it’s best when consumed within 90 days after opening.
One of the only things I really like about this probiotic is how hypoallergenic and pure it is, as you’d expect from a brand called Pure Encapsulations.
There’s no dairy, gluten, soy, wheat, eggs, or nuts.
It’s also free of any artificial colors or sweeteners and non-GMO.
So now let’s get to my biggest issue with this probiotic.
While first testing it out, I had to go on a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection.
My doctor recommended that I take a probiotic or yogurt with each dose, so that’s what I did.
She didn’t specify a brand or specific strands so I continued using Probiotic G.I. and upped the dose to 2 probiotic supplements per day.
My main goal was to help combat the effects of antibiotics and prevent any yeast infection from occurring.
Unfortunately, even after taking the maximum suggest dose for this probiotic, I still ended up with a yeast infection after completing the round of antibiotics.
Needless to say, I was NOT happy.
This probiotic is geared towards boosting immune function and supporting the G.I. barrier but it still contains probiotic strains that should’ve helped with the side effects of antibiotics and preventing/treating yeast infections.
And I also have IBS and I didn’t see much support with that while taking this supplement either.
So I’m stumped!
Overall, this probiotic failed in what I wanted it to do.

Ingredients/Strain Profile
Each capsule has 10 billion CFU and 6 different probiotic strains.
They put a lot of emphasis on supporting the G.I. barrier function and included researched strains that are intended to support healthy immune balance within the G.I. tract.
The gut barrier function prevents bacterial adhesion, identifies pathogens from other microorganisms, and establishes the immune tolerance and immune response to those pathogens.
It’s been shown that beneficial microflora are incredibly important for proper gut associated lymphoid tissue (GALT) function and development.
The GALT is a key player in the body’s immune system and helps protect your intestinal mucosa from toxins and allergens. It’s thought that more than 70% of your body’s B lymphocytes (B cells) are housed in the GALT. B cells are white blood cells that produce and secrete antibodies when they detect a harmful pathogen, which activates the immune system to destroy the invaders.
Friendly bacteria are believed to support a healthy GALT composition, which directly supports the barrier function.
Among the strains used in this probiotic, Bifidobacterium lactis helps aid in healthy T cell activity (another white blood cell that participates in the immune response) and assist in the production of cytokines in the intestine. Cytokines are a type of signaling molecule that mediate and regulate inflammation, immunity, and hematopoiesis (the process in which blood cells are formed).
B. lactis is also believed to help those with lactose intolerance and prevent diarrhea, especially associated with antibiotic use.
Another strain I like in here is Lactobacillus acidophilus, which is thought to encourage the creation of healthy cytokines in the colon.
L. acidophilus may additionally aid in balancing out bacteria levels, particularly after a round of antibiotics and potentially treat and prevent yeast infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Studies suggest that Streptococcus thermophilus is a healthy bacterium that helps activate lymphocytes and macrophages and increases the immune response.
Allergy Concerns
One of the only things I really like about Pure Encapsulations Probiotic G.I. is the fact it’s very allergy friendly and as their name suggests, it’s pure.
I have a slew of allergies and it’s something I have to be cautious of.
So I really appreciate it when companies have hypoallergenic products.
This probiotic is gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and non-GMO.
It also says on the bottle that it’s certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization, www.gluten.org.
It’s also free from wheat, egg, peanuts, magnesium stearate, hydrogenated fat, artificial sweeteners and colors, and other unnecessary excipients.
This supplement is vegan and vegetarian, which is a total perk!
The other ingredients include: rice starch, vegetarian capsule (cellulose, water).
Price/Value
You can buy a bottle of 60 capsules on Amazon for $36.00.
To buy directly from the Pure Encapsulations site you have to open an account and be a registered healthcare practitioner. But ironically the cost is $36.70. So Amazon is cheaper but I guess you get access to exclusive benefits and special offers if you’re a registered practitioner.
I’m not a healthcare specialist and I’m assuming the majority of you aren’t either so let’s stick with the Amazon price to gauge the value.
So for $36 you get 60 capsules and it’ll last you 30-60 days depending if you take 1 or 2 servings daily.
This works out to a daily cost of $0.60 to $1.20 to take this probiotic.
60 cents is affordable for this type of supplement but $1.20 is incredibly pricey compared to your average probiotic.
I really don’t think it’s a good value for the price no matter what serving size you take.
Side Effects
I didn’t have any side effects while taking Pure Encapsulations Probiotic G.I.
I even bumped it up to 2 capsules per day and still didn’t see any side effects.
I’m happy I didn’t have any adverse reactions but on the other hand I didn’t really have any positive effects either.
I didn’t see much or any real difference in my belly issues or immune function.
Guarantee
For the average customer like you and I, there’s no guarantee offered for this product.
This is a total bummer, especially because this product is on the pricier side.
But on the off chance you’re a healthcare practitioner, Pure Encapsulations offers a 30-day return policy for all products bought directly from their site or its authorized sellers.
However, even then it requires preauthorization and is subject to a 15% return fee.
So regardless, the guarantee isn’t the greatest and is non-existent for those of us who aren’t healthcare practitioners.
