Overall Opinion:
I’ve never heard of Sports Research (SR) until I got my hands on their Daily Probiotics 60 Billion CFU delayed release formula for men and women.
I originally found this probiotic on Amazon because it’s popular and highly rated.
I’ve learned through extensive research and experience that oftentimes these popular products are from questionable, fly-by-night companies that don’t really exist anywhere and have suspicious practices and one-off products.
I was happy to see they have an actual website, company and a variety of other products available.
But they seem to utilize Amazon quite a bit and SR Daily Probiotics 60 Billion CFU currently has 4.7 out of 5 stars and 307 ratings.
Whereas on their website they only have 6 reviews (all 5 stars of course).
*A quick rant and word of caution from yours truly …
I just ask everyone to be mindful of ratings and do your homework whenever you can.
When you look at their Amazon ratings, almost every single review is a glowing 5 stars (impressive and hard to do). And sprinkled around are a handful of 1-4 star reviews.
Their Amazon page was scoring a “C” (not good) on the fakespot review grade analyzer and magically within the last week, after the pricing changed, it’s scoring an A. So something seems fishy.
One last important note is they have a sticker promotion on the bottle that offers a free product if you favorably rate and review the probiotic (which is most likely the source of all the perfect 5-star reviews).
/end rant
Okay, I’m off my soap box and back to the gist of this probiotic!
Almost right away I noticed that Daily Probiotics 60 Billion CFU is very similar to Physician’s Choice 60 Billion Probiotic (right down to the packaging and capsules). You can go back and read my review of that one but let’s just say it’s on my naughty list.
The similarities continued as they both scored low in my book and I ended up rating this probiotic an unfavorable 1.5 out of 5 stars.
One of the main issues I have with this probiotic is how many probiotics and CFU it has. There’s just way too many of each and more isn’t better or even effective in this case.
They also don’t include any prebiotic fibers that are commonly found in solid probiotics because they act like fertilizer for friendly bacteria.
The bottle also says that “refrigeration is not required, but highly recommended” and to protect the product from excessive heat, freezing, humidity, and light. Unfortunately, these probiotics weren’t refrigerated during the shipping process. I prefer shelf stable probiotics because they’re hardier and usually contain more viable ingredients.
With that being said, I really feel like my probiotics didn’t have any viable, living bacteria in them.
I didn’t have any initial side effects (which is very common for strong formulas like this) and I saw zero benefits or improvement with my digestive issues and IBS symptoms.
These probiotics are also more expensive compared to the average probiotic.
Last but not least, the capsules are bigger and had a knack for getting stuck in my throat.
You also have to take the daily capsules with food.
Overall, this probiotic was a flop for me and the only reason I didn’t give it a 1 star was because at least it didn’t give me any bad side effects.
The Details:
Ingredients/Strain Profile
The name gives some of this away but Sports Research Daily Probiotics has 60 Billion CFU and 12 Lacto & Bifido probiotic strains.
I want to mention that supplements that cram a TON of strains and CFU in like this just aren’t ideal or even effective sometimes.
These mega potent probiotics can be too much of a good thing and lead to poor results.
Sometimes these high levels of CFU and different probiotics compete with each other and other good bacteria.
And sometimes it even leads to negative side effects.
I also wish that SR labeled out the specific strains used and not just the broad genus and species.
But of the (many) probiotics used, I do like the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum.
This probiotic species is known to help balance out the good and bad bacteria within the body and keep the levels in check. It’s also a good aid in helping you stay more regular with bowel movements.
It further helps with icky IBS symptoms and reducing uncomfortable gas and bloating.
Another probiotic used is Lactococcus lactis subsp. Lactis (L. lactis for short).
In some studies L. lactis has been shown to promote skin health, proper immune function, IBD and allergies.
I find it odd that they include so many different probiotics, but they don’t have any prebiotic fiber (which acts as a food supply for the friendly bacteria). That’s something I like to see when looking for solid probiotic candidates.
Allergy Concerns
There aren’t any major allergy concerns in this probiotic.
It does contain potato starch, an ingredient some of you might want to note.
The veggie caps are free of gluten, dairy, gelatin, and GMOs.
It’s certified vegan, 3rd party quality tested, and Non-GMO Project Verified.
The other ingredients include: Non-GMO Potato Starch, Delayed Release Veggie Capsule (Hypromellose, Gellan Gum, Purified Water), L-Leucine, Silicon Dioxide.
Price/Value
A 30-capsule bottle goes for $25.00 on the Sports Research (SR) website.
For whatever reason, the price was only $20 a week ago.
And oddly enough, on Amazon it was originally $21.95 (which is the amount I said in my YouTube video) and in the same week it randomly dropped to $15.37.
Anyways, I’m basing the price/value off the current $25.00 price tag it has on the SR website.
They only offer free shipping on orders of $75+, so there’s an additional $7.50 for shipping and $1.78 for taxes. As a side note, they offer PayPal and Amazon Pay at checkout, which isn’t something I always see!
But with shipping and taxes, it brings us to a grand total of $34.28 out the door.
So you get a 30 day supply and the daily cost comes out to $1.14.
Anything over a dollar per day is considered pricier than average.
I’m willing to pay more for a higher tier product but sadly this one doesn’t fall into that category.
For me, I don’t think it’s a good price for the value at all.
Side Effects
Much to my surprise, I didn’t have any bad side effects from this probiotic.
I say that because it’s incredibly potent and I usually have some side effects in the first week or so.
I really rely on probiotics for my painful IBS symptoms and seasonal and food allergies.
When I was testing these at home, I could tell they weren’t working at all and my symptoms never lessened.
When this happens, I tend to think the probiotic bacteria isn’t alive or viable and it’s a huge disappointment.
Maybe I just got a bad batch or something but still be mindful if you’re new to probiotics or sensitive because these are definitely intended to be strong.
